⸻ On The Top: Through the Backdoor of the Beat

Unexpected, Part 1: Exhaustion And Unexpected Scene

At the end of January 2022, in Friday, I visited two events in Prague. One of them featured the Austrian duo Camo & Krooked at Roxy. I was tired from work and unsure whether I even wanted to go. At the last minute, I decided to attend—but the exhaustion stayed with me the entire time. There’s another story I need to tell from that night. As I entered Roxy, I headed toward what I thought was the main stage. But I made a mistake and ended up in a different part of the club. Suddenly, I found myself surrounded by fans in what must have been the backstage area. They were chanting, “Sidney SN, Sidney SN, Sidney SN…” and dancing in rhythm with the drum and bass beats and their own clapping. I was a bit shocked—it was all just an accident, a wrong turn, and suddenly I was in this strange, unexpected scene.

Unexpected, Part 2: Hungry And The Change Of A Plan

On top of being tired, I was hungry. I couldn’t find any food in the club, so I left—even while Camo & Krooked were still playing. But finding food in the center of Prague late at night wasn’t easy. Eventually, I ended up at a gas station in Holešovice, where I found some food, but not enough. So I went to another club in Prague—one I hadn’t planned to visit—just because they had more to eat. I didn’t like the place. It was a hardcore techno event, not really my vibe. But I stayed for two or three hours. A German techno girl, probably from Berlin, seemed interested in me and stood very close. She probably offered me a drink, stayed close, and her tongue kept trying to get very close to me. Another girl, a blonde Czech with dreadlocks, asked if I was tired—she said I looked like I was about to fall asleep. But there were more people who asked me with this similar question.

Unexpected, Part 3: Deathly Days And Recovery

The next day, I still didn’t feel right. By Monday, I was having strange hallucinations. I felt a weird calm in my mind but sensed something was very wrong with my body. I realized that I must have been under the influence of a powerful drug, though I didn’t know what it was. I’ve never tried heroin, for example, but I’ve read about it, and this experience felt like something opioid-related. At the same time, Omicron hit. Those days were hard. It took three to four months before I felt healthy and strong enough to consider going to different event with Miss Monique and EDX. And that’s one of the reasons I don’t want to visit Prague’s events.
